Washington D.C. - Representative John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the allocation of over $5.035 billion in Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) to Texas for housing, infrastructure, and businesses impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Of this funding, $652 million is for remaining unmet disaster-related needs and $4.383 billion is for mitigation to prepare for future storms. This aid is part of the $28 billion of HUD funding Congress provided in February for 2017 disasters.

“This is another significant step forward in the recovery process for our community,” Rep. Culberson said. “I would like to thank the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for releasing these critical funds so that all of the Texas families and business owners impacted by Hurricane Harvey can continue to press ahead on their road to recovery.”

This allocation is in addition to the $5.024 billion provided by HUD for serious unmet needs to Texas in November 2017. The total CDBG-DR allocation for Texas following Hurricane Harvey is now over $9.808 billion. Including the mitigation funding provided in this announcement for storms since 2015, the total CDBG-DR funding Texas has received since 2015 is over $10.551 billion.

“As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development, I look forward to working with HUD and my colleagues in Congress to ensure these funds are quickly disbursed to those who need it most so that we can rebuild a stronger, more prepared Houston.”
