After the House Appropriations Committee approved the fiscal year 2018 Department of Homeland Security funding bill, Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement.

“I’m proud to support the FY18 Homeland Security appropriations bill. This legislation fulfills the important promises that we have made to our constituents to secure the southern border and provide the resources needed to combat illegal immigration, human trafficking and cybersecurity threats.

“For Texans, this bill is especially important, because this legislation increases funding for many of the agencies that help keep Texas safe.

“This bill includes a $1.6 billion increase in funding for Customs and Border Protection to protect our southern border, and to provide enough agents and the proper technology to combat illegal border crossings, drug and human trafficking.

“Houston has become a hub for human trafficking, and this legislation provides $2 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s investigation programs to stop human trafficking and child exploitation. Many illegal immigrants that pay to be illegally transported across our southern border end up in this cycle of modern day slavery, and this funding is crucial to end this terrible epidemic in Houston."

The FY18 Homeland Appropriations bill passed 30-22.
