Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement after the House passed the fiscal year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act.

“This year’s NDAA is crucial to rebuild America’s military. For far too long, our Armed Forces have been underfunded. Currently, too many battleships cannot sail, and too many planes are in such disrepair they cannot fly. The drastic cuts that our military experienced during the last administration have greatly reduced our readiness capabilities, which is why I’m proud to join 343 of my colleagues to pass this legislation to rebuild America’s Armed Forces.

“At a time when our country faces increasing threats of terrorism and hostile nations, the FY18 NDAA provides the equipment our Armed Forces need to be successful, including munitions, submarines, and naval ships. It invests in building a 355 ship Navy, and includes $3.3 billion for building and launching two additional Virginia Class Submarines per year.

“Right now, the men and women that wear the uniform are asked to do more with less, so this legislation includes a 2.4% pay raise for our troops. While there’s no number that is enough for those that put their lives on the line for our country, this pay raise will help provide for our military families.

“After continual cuts to the United States military, the FY18 NDAA will begin to rebuild our readiness capabilities, provide our troops with the necessary resources to do their jobs, and get America’s defenses back to where they should be. I’m proud to support this important legislation.”
