Culberson Supports FY 2018 Defense Appropriations Bill
Representative John Culberson (TX-07) issued the following statement after the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Defense Appropriations bill passed out of the House Appropriations Committee.
“I am proud to support the FY2018 Defense Appropriations bill because it provides a pay raise for our troops, funds medical research, offers assistance to Israel and works to rebuild our military,” said Rep. Culberson. “Ensuring our armed forces have the resources they need to protect and defend our national security is of the utmost importance, particularly after years of drastic cuts to our military. This year’s bill reaffirms our commitment to addressing threats overseas so the United States can act swiftly and prioritize the safety of Americans.”
“Texas is home to more than one hundred thousand active-duty service members, which means this 2.4% pay raise that the bill provides will deliver much needed relief for them and their families,” said Rep. Culberson. “This funding legislation is good news for the city of Houston as well. By increasing funding for medical research, this means our local area hospitals will be financially equipped to continue their research efforts and make discoveries in the fields of cancer research, psychological health research, and sexual assault prevention and response.”
This bill passed by voice vote.
