Culberson Chairs Military Construction-VA Appropriations Subcommittee Hearing on Military InstallationsCulberson Chairs Military Construction-VA Appropriations Subcommittee Hearing on Military Installations Washington, DC—Today, Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) chaired a Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee budget and oversight hearing with senior Department of Defense officials on the impacts of reduced spending on military infrastructure. After the hearing, Culberson called for Congress to fully support the quality of life for our armed forces: “We have immense responsibilities in this subcommittee, and I can think of nothing more important than to ensure the peace of mind and quality of life for our men and women in uniform. These are tough budgetary times, but providing for the military is a duty that we simply cannot neglect. I’m proud to continue this subcommittee’s long tradition of bipartisan support for our military and veterans.” The subcommittee hearing began at 1:30 pm today, in 2359 Rayburn House Office Building. The Honorable John Conger, Acting Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations, and Environment, The Honorable Dennis V. McGinn, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations, and Environment, The Honorable Katherine Hammack, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment, The Honorable Kathleen I. Ferguson, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Logistics testified at the hearing. The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee focuses on new construction and quality of life issues for active duty military and has full funding authority over the Department of Veterans Affairs.
