The emails from the Climatic Research Unit at Britain's University of East Anglia call into question the integrity of scientific data on climate change.  As a result, Congressman Culberson and other House Members sent a letter to five Inspectors General urging them to investigate the matter. These emails reveal that some U.N. scientists conspired to misrepresent climate data in order to push a political climate agenda onto the public.  Even more alarming is that U.S. federal taxpayer dollars have supported these scientific studies whose data was manipulated.  If this research is influenced or tainted by political considerations or ulterior motives, it could lead to the implementation of unwise and potentially detrimental policy. Therefore, this letter encourages the Inspectors General to begin investigating whether, in awarding federal grants, the agencies have confirmed the scientific and academic integrity of the research and whether the results of the federally funded studies have influenced the agency’s rulemaking process.  The letter also directs the Inspectors General to report to Congress on their findings.
