I voted in favor of the revised farm bill today because Agriculture Chairman Lucas and his fellow Republicans on the committee have transformed our farm programs from the direct payments system of the past to a fiscally responsible crop insurance program that will protect America's small farmers. For the first time since 1913, we will no longer have a corporate welfare system for our nation’s farmers. Republican Leadership also stripped the bloated social welfare payments out of the bill, and these changes have reduced the cost of the bill by 80 percent.
