Oversight Letters

One of the most important functions of Congress is its oversight power of the Executive Branch. I am a regular author or signatory of letters from Members of Congress to various governmental agencies requesting clarification, additional information, or changes to their policies and procedures. Letters that I have led or signed are listed below:

April 15, 2016: Rep. John Culberson & other Members of Congress sent a letter to House leadership to express their opposition to any of President Obama's proposed energy taxes. To read the letter, click here.

November 9, 2015: Rep. John Culberson & other Members of Congress sent a letter to OMB Director Shaun Donovan to urge the prioritization of the study of coastal barriers to protect communities and commerce along the Texas Gulf Coast. To read the letter, click here.

April 29, 2015: Rep. John Culberson & other Members of Congress sent a letter to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairwoman Edith Ramirez expressing concern over the manner in which the FTC recently voted to seek to enjoin the proposed merger of Sysco Corporation and U.S. Foods, Inc. April 20, 2015: Rep. John Culberson signed a letter to Defense Sec. Ashton B. Carter requesting an outline of how he intends to support the objectives of the FIAR plan and move the DoD toward full financial auditability. To read the letter, click here.  

March 13, 2015: Rep. John Culberson signed a letter to House Leadership in support of retaining Intangible Drilling Costs (IDCs), percentage depletion, and the classification of working interest owner as an active investor for independent oil and gas producers as Congress considers comprehensive tax reform. March 4, 2015: Rep. John Culberson signed a letter to B. October 6, 2014: Rep. John Culberson signed a letter to Marilyn Tavenner, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, urging CMS to remove restrictions on skin substitutes. To read the letter, click here

September 30, 2014: Rep. John Culberson signed a letter to HHS Secretary Burwell urging the United States Preventive Task Force (USPTF) to base its diabetes risk screening on multiple risk factors. To read the letter, click here

July 24, 2014: Congressman John Culberson sent a letter to President Obama signed by all 24 Texas Republican Members of the House of Representatives and both Senators urging President Obama to enforce the nation's existing immigration laws. The letter also includes recommendations on how to solve the border crisis. 

July 24, 2014: Rep. Culberson signed a bipartisan letter to Secretary of State Kerry and Secretary of Transportation Foxx urging them to negotiate an agreement with Japan that would open Tokyo's aviation market to US airlines and airports. To read the letter, click here

June 10, 2014: Congressman Culberson joined with other members of the Texas delegation in urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to keep the Freeport LNG terminal on schedule. To read the letter, click here

 

May 13, 2014: Rep. Culberson signed on to a letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General to express our concern over recent allegations that employees at the North Central Federal Clinic in San Antonio, Texas, as well as the Austin Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic and the Waco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, manipulated medical appointment data in order to conceal long wait times for veterans seeking care. March 21, 2014: Rep. John Culberson joined members of the Texas Congressional delegation in urging the Senate to remove a section of the Water Resources Development Act constraining the Army Corps of Engineers.To read the letter, click here

March 5, 2014: Rep. John Culberson (TX-07) joined a bipartisan group of Members of Congress in sending a letter to President Obama urging him to ensure that Iran ends its nuclear program. To read the letter, click here

 

January 30, 2014: Rep. Culberson signed on to a letter to House Ways and Means Chair Dave Camp and Ranking Member Levin that requests an extension of the state and local sales tax deduction for Texas tax payers. More than 20% of our country's population resides in state's without an income tax; instead, those states have opted to fund their state government with substantial sales tax revenue. Since residents of these states cannon claim a deduction for state income tax this deduction ensures that Texans are not punished for their state's preferred tax structure. December 10, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed a letter to House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan and Senate Budget Chairman Patty Murray opposing the increase in TSA passenger security fees as part of their proposed budget deal. To read the letter, click here

 December 10, 2013: Rep. Culberson joined other conservative Members of Congress in requesting a meeting with President Obama to discuss alternative health care plans to Obamacare. To read the letter, click here

November 26, 2013: Rep. Culberson wrote a letter to the Office of Management and Budget requesting a 120-day comment period on proposed rules affecting the social cost of carbon. To read the letter, click here

 November 15, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed on to a letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) regarding their decision to sequester the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) medical product user fees. To read the letter, click here

November 04, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed on to a letter to Senate leadership urging them to reject ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. To read the letter, click here.

October 30, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed on to a letter to Secretary of State Kerry inquiring as to why the Department of State failed to use its Rewards for Justice Program to help apprehend the terrorists who carried out the attack in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. October 8, 2013: Rep. September 25, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed on to a letter to Speaker Boehner, led by Congressman Joe Pitts, urging the Speaker to include provisions ending taxpayer-funded abortions as part of a government-funding plan.

September 20, 2013: Rep. Culberson joined the Texas Republican delegation in urging conservative Senators to join them in voting to keep the government open and defund Obamacare.

September 11, 2013: Rep. Culberson joined a letter to the Department Of Health and Human Services to address the abuse of taxpayer money to promote Obamacare exchanges.

August 28, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed a letter reminding President Obama of his constitutional requirement to seek Congressional authorization on the use of military force in Syria. To read the letter, click here

June 26, 2013: Rep. Culberson signed a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking for more information on the legal issues surrounding the domestic use of drones.

August 7, 2012:  Rep. Culberson joined a letter to Energy Secretary Stephen Chu requesting the Secretary take the necessary steps to expedite the approval process of the export of liquified natural gas (LNG).

August 7, 2012: Rep. June 8, 2012:  Rep. Culberson signed a letter from the Republican Study Committee (RSC) to President Obama supporting Speaker Boehner’s recent comments on raising the nation’s debt ceiling, in which he stated that spending cuts and reforms must be greater than the amount of the debt limit increase. May 4, 2012:  Rep. John Culberson joined Rep. Michael Burgess, MD on a letter to the acting CMS Administrator regarding the transition to a new contractor for the Medicare region that includes Texas. The letter asks CMS to provide the necessary oversight to prevent any needless interruptions in services during the transition. April 27, 2012:  Rep. Culberson joined 27 members of Congress on a letter calling for the immediate termination of EPA Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz in response to his philosophy of enforcement.  Click here to read the letter.

February 14, 2012:  A follow up letter to the October 13, 2011 letter to Administrator Bolden regarding the fundraising and construction efforts regarding the housing of of the Enterprise at the Intrepid Museum.

October 13, 2011:  Signed onto a letter to Administrator Bolden expressing deep concern regarding the recent developments with plans to display the Enterprise test orbiter at the Intrepid Air, Space and Sea Museum in New York City, NY.
