Statement on Retiring Orbiters

Today NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden announced that Houston will not receive one of the retiring Space Shuttle Orbiters.  It is sad and unfortunate that politics played such an obvious role in the placement of theses retiring Orbiters. The thought of an Orbiter not coming home to rest at Space Center Houston is truly tragic.  It is analogous to Detroit without a Model-T, or Florence without a da Vinci.

I’m glad to read your disappointment over the non-selection of Houston as a home for a shuttle. So, what are YOU going to do about it. Please investigate it. If anything, please delay the delivery of the shuttles to NY and LA until AFTER the next presidential election. This isn’t just emotional, but it’s also economic. Houston needs the tourism and the jobs created by it – not just within the JSC and Space Center Houston, but also the small businesses in the area. Please do the right thing.
