WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. John Culberson (TX-07) issued the following statement in response to yesterday’s announcement by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service would not be listing the dune sagebrush lizard as an endangered species:
“I am thrilled that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Secretary Salazar recognized that there is no scientific evidence to support listing the dune sagebrush lizard as an endangered species and that the reptile is viable thanks to the conservation efforts of the farmers and ranchers in West Texas. This decision is welcome news to the hard-working Americans who will benefit from continued development of the oil and gas fields in western Texas.”
In November 2011, Rep. Culberson signed a letter to Secretary Salazar supporting growing evidence that the dune sagebrush lizard was not endangered and that additional research studies should be conducted before a decision is made. To read the letter, click here.
