Houston Rotarians Return Home from Haiti – My Fox Houston
HOUSTON – Members of the Rotary Club of Houston service team who were stranded in Haiti following Tuesday’s devastating quake are back at home Saturday morning.
Rotarian members, Michelle Bohreer (President), Vern Swisher, Vicki Brentin, Genelle Edwards, Suzanne Edwards, and Surpris Cherazard, arrived at Bush Intercontinental Airport just after midnight Saturday.
The group was greeted by friends, family and media as they shared their stories of hope, tragedy and survival.
The group traveled to Haiti with plans to dig wells in and around Port-au-Prince, but those plans were changed when the earthquake struck less than an hour after their plane landed.
The rotary club thanked the rescue team headed by Todd Zucker and John Brentin and the many people who worked around the clock for the last 72 hours to secure their safe passage back home.
A statement from the organization also thanked Congressmen Ted Poe and John Culberson, their staff and countless others who provided invaluable information and assistance in coordinating the rescue.

I have been reading where some people want to ease restrictions for the Haitians so that they can come to the US. I am against that line of thinking. They need to stay there so they can help rebuild their country. Aid is pouring into the country, and it will take all of them working together to recover from the disaster. They can’t rebuild the country if everyone wants to take the easy way out and leave. And if they are granted access to this country, that means the already overburdened taxpayer will have to subsidize that as well. Calvin has a good point in sending FEMA trailers over there. However, I would keep some as a just in case we have another bad Hurricane season and need them again.
We can help the Haitians by gathering up the thousands of FEMA trailers that are in storage around south Mississippi and ship them to Haiti. This will help the homeless people in Haiti and save the U.S. taxpayers millions of dollars that is being paid in lease money to property owners, around the clock guard services and land maintenance. In the Lumberton Mississippi area there are over 10,000 FEMA trailers in storage. Lets get them off of our books and put them to good use.
