Congressman Culberson helped to direct funding to the following projects in Fiscal Year 2006:
- $2.1 million for the Alliance for NanoHealth in Houston for competitive interdisciplinary research projects studying the environmental, economic, social, and ethical aspects of nanotechnology.
- $200,000 for the Children’s Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine to research pediatric obesity prevention strategies.
- $50,000 for the Harris County Flood Control District for continued flood mitigation of the White Oak stem of Buffalo Bayou.
- $11.8 million for the Harris County Flood Control District for continued flood mitigation of Brays Bayou.
- $5 million for the Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition.
- $100,000 for the Texas Department of Public Safety for law enforcement programs.
- $1.5 million for the City of Houston for projects to minimize roadway flooding.
- $750,000 for the City of Houston’s Regional Computerized Traffic Signal System.
- $12 million for Houston METRO for preliminary engineering of the first two light rail lines.
- $2.03 million for Houston METRO’s bus program.
- $4 million for the Houston Airport System to build a new terminal radar approach control (TRACON) to replace the aging, flood prone facility at Bush Intercontinental Airport..
- $750,000 for the City of Houston for congestion relief and road improvement projects.
- $4 million for the construction of a new Trauma Access Corridor into the Texas Medical Center to increase mobility for the 150,000 people who travel in and out of the Medical Center every day.
- $1.5 million for the University of Houston’s environmental health research program to address public health risks associated with air toxins in urban environments.
- $2 million for the State of Texas to address air quality issues in eastern and central Texas in order to comply with federal guidelines.
- $200 million for safe drinking water and sanitation projects, to ensure that U.S. aid is effectively targeted at saving lives.
