Washington, DC – Today, Representative John Culberson (TX-7) issued the following statement after signing onto legislation introduced by Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) to freeze pay for members of Congress for both fiscal year 2013 and fiscal year 2014.
“I have co-authored legislation which will be on the floor tomorrow to freeze my salary and overturn the President’s Executive Order raising Congressional pay. We need a pay freeze and a hiring freeze for the entire federal government, except the military. This would save a vast amount of money all by itself.”

I would support a pay freeze and hiring freeze on all government employees except the military until our budget is balanced. In the average American household mine included we trim the fat when we need to balance our personal budget. That in my household includes a freeze or stoppage of the kid’s allowance.
Please stand your ground and demand spending cuts, no tax increases and no more regulations.
This is a great idea and admirable. I hope the salary freeze and the pay increase is rescinded.
If Americans have to tighten their belts then our representatives should also. Our representatives in congress are not in touch with the general constituency. They promise a lot during election and deliver nothing.
I agree on the pay freeze for all government employees and elected officials.
Any raises should be ” Cost Of Living Raises” and should apply to SS Recipicants as well . This should cover EVERONE getting a check from the government including military Etc..
