This week, the liberal majority plans to vote on a financial regulatory reform bill that will radically change the way markets function and vastly expand the federal government’s regulation of the free market. Although the House leadership argues this is necessary to address the problems plaguing the economy, the legislation will not create a single private-sector job, and this bill will not fix the problems of the economic crisis. Instead, at every turn, this bill expands government bureaucracy and red tape.

After the terrorist attack at Fort Hood, Rep. Culberson joined several colleagues in sending a letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller requesting clarification on reports that the FBI stopped investigating Nidal Malik Hasan despite his comments, postings, and contact with radical Islamist groups.

Rep. Culberson has strong concerns that an interim report published by the Obama Administration’s Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force is a veiled effort to prohibit recreation on the nation’s oceans. The task force did not take into consideration comments and input provided by recreational fishermen and fishing organizations, and its policy recommendations failed to mention the economic impact of the industry as well as the contributions industry members make to protecting and conserving marine habitat.
